Some Gourmet Boerie specials to help you keep warm

So it’s Friday afternoon… the weekend is finally here, but the weather certainly is not playing along.  You’re probably thinking “I could kill for a boerie & a beer right about now”… if not, you probably will be after I tell you about these specials the guys at Gourmet Boerie over in Kloof St are currently running:

First up, their Winter Special:

image001For R110 you will get a selection of Gourmet Boerie’s seven mini rolls (OMG I love mini rolls!!!), ranging from their traditional “Old Skool Boerie” roll to their seasonal “The Hangover“ roll.
Add to that a large serving of their original shoestring chips as well as a Mini Dessert Platter with a trio of proudly South African sweet treats.
PLUS, you can also enjoy two Craft or SAB Beers! (or if alcohol’s not your thing, you can swap it out for two cool drinks).  This special is available Mon – Fri, but listen up, it’s only running until the end of August.

Then we have the Potjie Tuesdays Special:

image003This one’s also only running until end Aug, so there’s only 2 more opportunities left to take advantage…
Treat yourself to some good ol’ South African potjie kos. Served in old-style mini potjie pots with pap, brown rice, whole-wheat grain or creamy mash.
Available every Tuesday (until end Aug) from 17:00 to 22:30 for only R75.

And lastly, the Saturday Special (and the good news is that this one’s gonna stick around):

image002R55 gets you any Gourmet Boerie roll with a serving of the original Shoestring Chips and a 300ml SAB beer.
Oh and you can choose from a selection of rolls, varying from the veggie-infused to the Mexican-inspired roll to add some spice.
This special’s going to be an ongoing one, every Saturday.

I actually haven’t been to Gourmet Boerie in a while, dunno how that happened, cause I love that place (I’m just gonna blame all my travelling).  But now I definitely have to get my butt over there cause those mini rolls are calling my name…

O.live lovin’

This past weekend I popped into O.live in Kloof St for the first time ever… (even though I’d driven past there like a million times before, thinking to myself “Hey, that place looks cool.  I should check it out”, but was too lazy to do so. 🙂 )

My reason for finally going inside?  Well I was looking for these amazing paper placemats I once saw in a tiny little decor shop in the middle of nowhere.  They were kinda like these:

But way more awesome… they had tons more detail and they were in full colour and I totally should have snapped them up right then & there, but I didn’t… cause sometimes (just sometimes) I’m a total knob head. 😉  Now you might be thinking – well why would one want paper placemats in any case?  Many reasons really:

  1. They are fun & different.
  2. You can change them up all the time.
  3. No washing / cleaning involved – just toss them away after use (and because they are paper, you can recycle!).

Someone then gave me a tip-off that I might find them at O.live.  So thus the reason for my visit…

BUT what I found there was way more amazing than my precious paper placemats.  That shop is like stumbling upon lost treasure, but for decor freaks.  They have a great mix of interesting antique / second hand finds, lotsa quirky modern stuff, gorgeous ceramics & glassware and tons of other fantastical things that I guarantee you, you will battle to find anywhere else.  Check it out:

They did in fact have a selection of paper placemats.  But sadly only black & white ones and I have my heart set on brightly coloured ones.  But that doesn’t mean I left there empty handed.  After standing around with my mouth hanging open in amazement for a period which probably started making the lady looking after the shop a bit uncomfortable…  I settled on this item from the sale table which totally stole my heart:

I got a whopping 50% off! Was R460, only paid R230.

To me it kinda feels like something that would have been used in a pharmacy from way back when to store medicine.  Or maybe you could use it in your kitchen for spices and such.  To be honest, I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with it yet.  But I’ve been cuddling up to it at night, trying to figure out where it would be happiest.  I just looooove it so much.  I WILL make it work… or change up all my other decor to match it dammit!

Wanna check out O.live for yourself?  You’ll find them at nr 8 Kloof St, Gardens (across the way from the McDonalds).

Shop away! 🙂

Lovely things at Lovelee

Girls, if you haven’t yet checked out new boutique Lovelee at 39 Kloof Street (opposite the Spar), get your damn buts over there!

Owner & designer, Leandra Do Pereiro is a gorgeous gal who rocks out some seriously fun & flirty items.  I first came across her things back at the beginning of last year when my friend Joe did a shoot for her first range.  I got a sneak peak of her things while he was editing the shots from the shoot and I immediately begged him to give me her details so I could snap up some of the dresses before anyone else could get their hands on them.  Yeah, I’m sneaky that way. 😉

At the time she operated from a little workshop in Woodstock, so I grabbed my friend Nix and we headed over there for some serious retail therapy.  That day I became the proud owner of these 2 stunning dresses:

Plus some cute summer vests and also a sexy winter blouse… and she even threw in some stunning accessories as well.  Happiness all round.

Then I was very excited to hear that she was finally branching out by opening her very own boutique in Kloof St and I jumped at the opportunity to go check it out.  Lovelee is like walking into a big, beautiful, girly bedroom:

Stunning furniture pieces, pretty accents, lots of little areas to explore:

Clothing wise there’s a good selection of cocktail/party dresses and then more casual things like sundresses, maxi dresses, tops & bottoms:

Also a selection of cute bikinis & vests:

And lots and lots of unique accessories:

This time round I left with this gorgeous blouse:

That’s Leandra in these pics.  Loooove the fact that she decided to be the model in her latest shoot – she’s absolutely stunning.

And also this dress which I’m planning on wearing to the Queen’s Plate this weekend (with some blue accessories to fit the blue & white dress code):

I also got this really cute knitted waistcoat which I’m dying to wear with a sexy fitted vest & some skinny jeans:

Love!

To top it all off, her pricing is an absolute dream.  For all 3 items (blouse, dress & waistcoat) I only paid a total of R1150 (or something like that – lost the slip).   I mean seriously, that’s crazy good! 🙂

Go and check out the Lovelee Facebook page for more pics & details.  And do yourselves a favour and make a turn there if you’re in the area.  Leandra says she plans on getting in new things on a regular basis – so if you’re a total shopaholic like me, that’s just plain awesome.

Alice’s wonderland, or at least close to it!

Did you know that Madame Zingara has opened a “one stop party shop” in Kloof St!?  The shop is labelled  “This is not a post office”… think that’s a strange name for a shop?  Well yeah, maybe… but you see the building actually used to be a post office and for fun they kept the old post boxes as part of the building facade.  BUT trust me, it is a totally different story on the inside… 🙂

Too cute! Especially love the big post box with the ladder to reach the letter opening...

The best way to describe the feeling when you enter the shop is like you are Alice popping her head into Wonderland…

There's just so many cool things, it takes a while to take it all in...

You can really find absolutely ANYTHING here, like this ring that lights up and changes colour!

You think this is too much? Nah, it's awesome!

And a BIG eraser for BIG mistakes…

Yup, I definitely need one of those! haha

My life was finally complete when I found cupcake shaped everything & pink elephants with wings!

Seriously... I need all of that!

Oooh, and I’ve always wanted one of those Scream masks to creep people out:

Hmmm... Scream 5 anybody?

The shop is plit into various different rooms with different themes.  This is the main room as you enter the store – I’m calling it the Candy Wonderland room:

Larger than life candy canes & disco balls... what is cooler than that combo!?

Then you pass through a little door to get to the Disco room – filled with different wigs, fun glasses and other head gear:

Where's the party at?

Then you walk on these Baker’s Strawberry Whirl shaped cookie steps to get to the Fairy room:

Every girl's dream room

Then finally, my personal favourite, the Dirrrrty Room (no under 18s allowed):

Sies! Watse goed is daai?

We seemed to spend a lot more time in this section of the store! haha.  Hmmm, maybe it was that comfy heart shaped chair?

How porno is that!?! I HAVE to have one...

I found some interesting “evening wear” options…

For naughty boys & girls 😉

And this actually appears to be a donkey style penis sock!  Like every guy totally needs one of these, right?

Um, OK... to each his own I guess... haha

I couldn’t resist snapping up a pair of cute thigh high stockings – I have a socks & stocking addiction.  You should see my impressive collection at home.

Love 'em!

I was also really intrigued by these “duckies” – they sure as hell don’t resemble the ones I played with in the bath when I was only 5 years old! You’ll be happy to know though that they are totally waterproof.

Rub a dub dub... fun in the tub...

Lastly I just had to also snap a shot of the opening to this “Chamber o’ dirrrrtiness” –  so fun:

Beaded curtains are so making a come back...

This shop truly has something for everyone.  Whether you’re looking for cool party decorations and outfits or just something random and fun to give as a gift or to gift to yourself, this is the place to go.

Mad about Manna!

If you haven’t yet been to Manna Epicure (151 Kloof St), then you’re totally missing out.  That place is absolutely gorgeous! Oh and the food is pretty yummy too… 😉

There’s a really cute outside deck area where you can enjoy the sunshine on a warm day:

Pretty from the outside…

But the most stunning part is the interior – crisp white-on-white design that just blows you away:

But even prettier inside!!!

There’s some seriously fun elements too, like this in-your-face wooden chandellier type light:

It’s totally overwhelming, slightly strange… yet so incredibly awesome…

To kick off my Manna experience, I opted for a Chai Latte.  I am totally Chai Latte obsessed at the moment, just can’t get enough of the stuff!   You could hook me up to a Chai Latte drip and I would be in heaven…

Come to mama!

Then I just couldn’t resist indulging in the french toast croissant with bacon, brie cheese, rocket and honey.  Doesn’t that just sound soooooo good!?

Oh yeah baby… you turn me on…

Lastly my friend Nix and I decided to share a piece of the red velvet cake that we had beein eyeing out since sitting down at our table.  I had never had red velvet cake before, so I was very excited…

Seriously, how beautiful is this cake?  It’s almost too pretty to  eat…

I think in my mind, because of the bright red colour – I was expecting something totally different.  Like some kind of crazy berry flavour that packed a lot of punch.  But in reality it just kinda tasted like a mildly flavoured chocolate cake…  hmmmm… disappointment…  It was slightly dry as well, but I think that was because we had the last piece that was left on the display.  Never a good option.   Nix claims that she can make a much better red velvet cake and that I will totally fall in love with it.  She’s just gonna have to prove herself on that one, but I will be all to happy to be part of the tasting panel. haha.

I decided not to let the cake mishap affect my feelings about Manna in general, so my Miss K Kiss-o-Meter ratings would be as follows:

  • Vibe:
  • Price:
  • Food:
  • Service:

After all those kilojoule heavy treats I had to starve myself the rest of the day (I’m sadly not even joking) – but it was 100% worth it.
